Some people live in colder regions than others, and when it gets bitter cold they look for ways to keep warm. Living in the Northeast it’s a given that you must have a good heater in your car, and your defroster must work. If it doesn’t, you’re going to have some problems driving, if you can make it out of the driveway in the first place.
Just like we sometimes think it’s too hot outside for our automotive air conditioner to do us any good, there are some people who find that it’s so bitter cold outside that their car heater isn’t doing them any good. It almost seems unreasonable, doesn’t it? How could you run an engine that gets up to operating temperature and your heater doesn’t provide you with enough hot air to keep you warm?
A man near Zurich, Switzerland, decided that his heater in his Volvo was no match for the extreme cold weather they were having this past winter, so he decided to improvise and provide his own source of heat for the cabin of his car. It’s almost too difficult to take this seriously – to think someone would actually go through with this – but Pascal Prokop did something that is so bazaar that we just had to share it.
He installed a wood burning stove in the passenger compartment of his Volvo to keep warm, and even got his contraption through Swiss Technical Inspection Authority. You read that right, he has a wood burning stove in his car complete with a stovepipe protruding through the roof. If we didn’t see the pictures, we wouldn’t believe it ourselves. So what silly creations have you seen someone doing to their car that has you snorting with laughter?
