COMP Cams Releases New Ford 5-Liter Camshafts

The glorious and highly anticipated return of the fabled “Five-Oh” 5.0-liter engine from Ford in the new 2011 Mustang has been met with overwhelming support thus far, and represents one of the hottest additions to the automotive marketplace in some time. Since virtually day one upon the cars’ announcement, aftermarket manufacturers have jumped on board to offer enthusiasts with performance parts that have become essential must-have’s on any Mustang.

Valve train innovator Comp Cams has become the first in the industry to offer an aftermarket camshaft that is designed specifically for use in the DOHC 5.0-liter Coyote 4-Valve V8 engine found in the 2011 Mustang. The new billet hydraulic roller camshaft affords a significant increase in horsepower for the new Mustang, is counter balanced, and works with phaser limiters to produce optimum safe horsepower. These new camshafts are engineered to work with both naturally aspirated and supercharged engines, with three stages being offered in each series, along with a No Valve Springs required and custom grind versions. The optimized race and street profiles provide power where you need it most, be that maximum mid-range power and torque or in increased top end power. Comp is also offering custom racing profiles for high performance racing applications.

The lobes on the Ford OHC engine are much larger than the common cam-in-block engine, serving as an area that must be addressed for high performance usage. As such, Comp has used cutting-edge racing technology and applied it to their street application, with the new phaser-friendly cam design that decreases vibrations and reduces overall harmonics for a smoother valvetrain.  This means you can keep your variable valve timing that your Mustang comes with!
