Street/strip vehicles are nothing new but every year Hot Rod Drag Week aims to expand the accepted definition that shapes the very idea of a race car that can also be driven on the street. With September just days away, Drag Week is right around the corner and this year’s event promises to be one to remember.
COMP Cams, the industry leader and other COMP Performance Group companies will once again be joining the five-day event filled with races and true “streetablity” tests for over 200 hand-selected racers and their rides for the 2012 tour. If you’re into drag racing and true automotive performance, this is definitely one event you won’t want to miss.
Heading into it’s eighth year, Hot Rod Drag Week is the ultimate test for high-performance street/strip vehicles. Over five days, racers and their rides travel from track to track, drag racing in 15 different classes during the day and then driving to their next track destination after the daily races are over. There are no trailers or support vehicles allowed, as all participants are required to carry all necessary equipment, provisions and tools with them on the five day journey. In total, participants will drive over 1,100 miles during the ultimate racing road trip as they compete in such classes as Pro Street, Super Street, Modified and Gasser and AF/X varieties.
Hot Rod Drag Week 2012 kicks off on September 9th at Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma with a Test & Tune and mandatory tech inspection. Racing will commence the next day there before heading to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX for racing on September 11th. Participants will then travel to Thunder Road Raceway in Gilliam, Louisiana, Memphis International Raceway, and back to Tulsa Raceway Park for the finals on September 14th.
COMP will be presenting the Engine Builder Challenge for this year’s Drag Week tour as well as supplying prizes to the winners in each engine building class. COMP sister companies TCI and FAST will also be on hand as the official transmission and fuel injection companies for the program, providing contingency prizes for competitors. Finally, COMP Performance Group technicians will be present along the trip to offer assistance to participants if needed.
Hot Rod Drag Week is certainly an automotive bucket list event and if you get a chance to check it out this year, we highly recommend it. And with COMP backing the event, you know you’re in for some massively impressive street/strip machines.
