Craiglist Find: A Demon That Still Haunts The Streets Of Detroit

1971 Dodge DemonDespite being a city adorned with modern day ruins, several old relics of Detroit still reside within the area in perfect condition. One of these is the rare Dodge Demon. Arguably one of the most underrated musclecars of all time, we found this blue ’71 Demon listed on Detroit’s Craigslist. With devilish blue paint, aggressive styling lines and a mean 360 mill, this Demon boosts plenty of personality. Everything about this Demon is original minus its 340, which was replaced with the bigger 360 mill. The Demon’s interior is a time capsule of 1971 as not a scratch or tear can be seen in any of the vinyl or wood grain.

1971 Dodge Demon rearThe early 1970s was an era of political chaos, war, and a violent crime wave that swept every major American city. Despite all of this hardships, young American men wanted to have fun. They wanted to escape from the realities of the world in the most healthy way they knew how: hitting the streets with their musclecars. Dodge catered to these young American men by designing a car that appealed to the little boy inside of every grown man – the Demon. It had a cartoonish and mischievous personality, high impact paint, aggressive race inspired styling and provided the attitude of a mean 275 horsepower, 340 lb-ft of torque from its 340 engine. This was a car that looked great standing still, and looked even better at speed. It was a fun car that wasn’t interested in being practical or mature, all it cared about was having fun, winning races and impressing chicks. And they always looked great with big tires in the back, a perfect combination.

Sadly that dream ended in 1973 when the Demon was dropped because it didn’t get the popularity Dodge had hoped for. During it’s 2 year run, adding insult to injury, 1973 saw higher insurance premiums, rising gas prices and stricter red tape on production performance cars. It seems over the years the Demon has almost become forgotten. Still, despite the demise of the Demon’s popularity, there are still those who love the car, and the seller hopes to pass it off to one of them.
