With the popularity of musclecars at an all time high, there seems to be those delusional individuals out there unable to tell the difference from what is a classic and what isn’t. It doesn’t matter where you go either, swap meets, online ads, or at classic car auctions – you find people marketing their car as something it isn’t. We see clones galore, “1-of-Nones,” and cars advertised as Super Sports and GT’s when there never was such a badge attached to that particular model.
A perfect example of this is the ’71 Buick Skylark “GT” we found on Craigslist just the other day. Obviously no such car ever existed, unless the owner meant to refer to this as a GS. But we are having difficulty believing that to be the case.
Maybe it has something to do with the lack of exterior badging, the adhesive Lund hood scoops, the ’86-87 Buick Regal T-Type wheels, and no provided engine photo. The seller claims that the car runs strong, but since it currently has a bunk battery you might want to bring one with you when you go to look at it.
The seller claims that the N.A.D.A Blue Book is $9,185 on this car, but he’ll take trade “for a newer model vehicle, motorcycle, four-wheeler or $3500 cash.” He also goes as far as referring to it as an antique. For a car that’s only 41 years old, that may be a bit of a stretch.
We think with some imagination, a lot of elbow grease and cash this could be a nice street machine. Just don’t tell people that it’s an antique Skylark GT. They might look at you a little sideways.
