Human beings have proven time and again to be ingenious, inventive, and dead-set on being different. Car enthusiasts can be especially creative when it comes to going fast, modifying everything from big rigs to lawn mowers for the sole pursuit of speed. Because if you’re going to be different, you might as well be REALLY different.
So it is with today’s Craigslist find; a 1956 Motor Generation Corp. Airport taxi/tractor. What should be a retired tug has instead found a second life as a HEMI-powered parade right and car show staple. For just $2,500, it can be yours…perhaps for drag racing?
That would seem to be what this airport taxi was setup with. True, it came standard with the HEMI V8 engine, backed by a three-speed standard transmission, but we doubt the straight pipes or racing slicks were factory options.
The tug was once used by nearby Fort Ord with its original purpose in mind, but once sold into private hands it became more of a funky local fixture.
While there aren’t any seatbelts, and the bench seat itself is held together by duct tape, we can’t help but think what a cool ride this would be as either a yard tractor, or a legitimate drag racer. Though without seatbelts, most legit drag strips probably wouldn’t let you race. But weld in a roll cage, add a couple of racing seats, and who knows? This might just be the little airport tug that could…kick ass at drag racing.
