Decoding The Shelby GT350 VINs Reveals Preferred Colors, Options

A Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, can tell the whole story about a car with just a few numbers. This information is easily decoded to reveal original engine choices, colors, and build dates. With higher-end cars the VIN becomes invaluable in deciphering the authenticity of a current or future classic.

Most people wouldn’t argue that the 2015 Shelby GT350 definitely falls in the future classic category, and if you know what you’re looking for and where to look, one can find out a whole lot about what colors and options future GT350 owners are choosing. Using the VIN from the window sticker posted by an excited GT350 buyer, a Facebook fan of StangTV deciphered the code via an algorithim and using Ford’s window sticker lookup, figured out color and option packages for the first wave of GT350s. If accurate, this information could be invaluable in determining the authenticity of these cars at a future date.

This information wasn’t hacked, and it doesn’t reveal anything personal about the owners of these Shelbys. What it does reveal, (we think) is of the 90 limited edition 2015 GT350s, over a third (37 to be exact) choose white to be their base color, almost double the runner-up option, Blue. As for the choice between the $9,600 Technology package and $6,500 Track package, it came down to an exact tie of 45 vehicles each. Perhaps the rarest GT350 will be the one with no options at all? This is only 90 examples of the just over 100 that are to be built with a 2015 VIN.

The list above was sent to us via Facebook from a fan.

Orange and Yellow have proven the least-popular colors so far with only 3 and 2 takers, respectively. The title for rarest 2015 GT350 is also a tie, between an Orange car with the Technology package and an Avalanche colored Shelby with the Technology package. The only available option that nobody chose was a Yellow/Track combo. While this is just a small sampling size of the greater Shelby GT350 sales, it could give us some hints as to which of these limited edition cars will be the least popular, and thus, rarest of them all.

Funny how that works.
