We’ve all seen it before. A cool old car left out in the rain or elements as it slowly turns brown with tin worm and transforms into an automotive version of swiss cheese. What’s worse is if it’s a rare or high performance car. Cars in Barns found this four headlight ’71 Barracuda in Tennessee, left outside to fend for itself with a bold declaration from current owner.
There were roughly 16K Barracudas made in 1971 and for all intents and purposes, this is a desirable car because of the one year only front and rear end treatments as well as fender vents in hi-po models. However, this particular car looks to be a rather pedestrian version as it has no hood scoop or fender vents and although it looks tough with non original stripes and old school aftermarket wheels, our hunch is that it’s not a rare model.
Nonetheless, there it squats out in the elements losing the never ending battle of erosion and atrophy that inevitably follows “lot rot”. This would be a great start to a tribute car or resto rod. We like the idea of making it a tribute Gran Coupe with cool ‘70’s accouterments and leather seats. There are probably enough tribute HEMI ‘Cudas in the world.
The possibilities are endless. From getting it running, blowing out the mice turds and blasting off to calling that dude from Graveyard Carz and have him do a number on it. Sadly, eccentric owner says that “Only when it can be swept away in a dust bin” would she consider selling it. There oughta be a law.
