As of late, Dodge‘s stagnant undertone has been causing the company to draw the short straw in an ever evolving marketplace. With Ram becoming a brand in itself and the immanency of Dodge’s profits heading toward the toilet, Dodge is under a lot of pressure to come up with something to appease shareholders and customers alike.
It seems like a new trend is emerging where models across the board come and go much more often than they used to. The latest to hit the can is the Dodge Avenger which, to nobody’s surprise, garnered basically no following. With the departure of the Avenger, Dodge will have an undesirable gap in it’s product line for upcoming years. Generally in this case, the brand would take a model from its sister brand, Chrysler and just redesign it. However, rumor has it that won’t be the case at all. What’s currently floating around in the rumor mill is the idea that the next midsize car to pop up with the Dodge nameplate will implement a rear wheel drive system instead.
In order to breathe life back into the struggling brand, Dodge will undoubtedly have to try something new. That something may just come in the form of an Alfa Romeo platform. With both small engine power and fuel efficiency technology at an all time high, this would be the most opportune time for Dodge to come up with a well rounded car that can tackle not only the midsize commuter car gap in the market, but also fill the sporty, fuel efficient void that Dodge hasn’t even considered since the SRT-4 Neon died back in 2005. It’s a very thin balance beam that Dodge is teetering on, perhaps this is a stellar opportunity to push them toward the other side. Do you think it’s about time we get a mid-size RWD car from Ma Mopar?
