When the DeLorean was selected to be Doc Brown’s time travel device, it was a deliberate decision. Not only does the DeLorean look futuristic as hell, it’s also a downright cool car, albeit one plagued by performance and reliability problems in the real world. Most people would probably agree that the Dodge Challenger is a cool car too, but it’s no Delorean when it comes to time travel, as one Florida man proved just before Christmas.

Channel Three reports that a man driving the aforementioned Dodge Challenger crashed his muscle car into three Pensacola, Florida businesses in a bid to “travel through time”, according to the embedded video.

The driver’s name has not been released, perhaps because he was a minor, though police did issue him a citation for reckless driving and took him to the hospital for evaluation. The damage to the car doesn’t look as bad as we’d expect from an 88 MPH crash, leading us to believe that could have been why the driver plowed through one side of an office building and out the other, rather than travelling through time as he intended. Nobody, not even the would-be time traveler, was hurt in the incident amazingly enough.

There’s obviously more to this story than we’re being told, and from the sounds of it the driver may have been under the influence of more than just one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. You don’t even need to be sober to know that the DeLorean is the only acceptable means of moving forward or backwards through time. As cool as a Dodge Challenger is, it’s still no gull-winged DeLorean.
