Earlier this year, Dodge halted all new Hellcat Challenger and Charger orders due to supply constraints. The company had envisioned a demand of approximately 4000 cars annually, and in just the first few months of both cars going on sale, amassed over 9000 orders.
After the folks at Mopar put the brakes on new orders for the 707 horsepower muscle cars, the rumor going around was that they would not begin taking on new orders again until the end of the summer, which is when 2016 models are scheduled to start production.
However, according to sources at Allpar, which has been a traditionally reliable source of Chrysler insider news, a very unusual opportunity has apparently opened up for those who’re looking to order a Challenger Hellcat and their tastes also happen to match the criteria required.
Allpar claims the opportunity is only open for 24 hours or so, but if you’ve been pining for a Hellcat coupe with a six-speed manual transmission and you don’t want it painted Sublime Green, now is your chance to get your order placed.
This bizarre set of circumstances, by our estimate, is likely due to an allocation at the factory for said criteria, perhaps placed by a customer putting down order deposits at multiple dealerships and seeing who was able to fill it first, then canceling all the other orders once one of them actually got built.
In other words, our theory is that someone basically placed two or more orders for the same car, got one of them built, and canceled the rest of them. Either way, if you’ve been left out in the cold for your six-speed Challenger Hellcat, this may be your [narrow] window of opportunity to get it built, at least for the next few months.
