Muscle cars are good for a lot of things. They have style, poise, and lots of power. Plus, muscle cars have among the best and most recognizable names in the world. Mustang. Camaro. Charger. These are names known across the world as vanguards of powerful automobiles. But muscle cars as life savers?
Such was the case when last week, a young man, in an apparent suicide attempt, leapt from the 39th floor of a Manhattan high rise. He managed to survive, however, by landing feet first on the roof of a new Dodge Charger, reports the New York Post.
We do not recommend anybody go out and try to replicate this stunt/suicide bid, as only luck ensured that the man in question, 23-year old Thomas Magill, survived. He went to the 39th floor of building he supposedly once lived in, and jumped. There was no suicide note, and according to witnesses, Magill was “flailing” on his way down. He landed feet first on the rear of the roof of a ’08 Charger, breaking both of his legs and puncturing a lung but otherwise surviving intact.
It is an amazing story, due perhaps in part to the Charger’s robust roof. The Charger is no doubt a big car, with a big roof, an Magill landed feet first on the roof and glass portion, cushioning his fall. Had he landed elsewhere on the car, like the hood, he might not have been so lucky. Hopefully this will be his wake up call and lead him to living a fuller, more positive life. Who knows, maybe he’ll even end up as a Charger owner.
