We think it is fair to say that Chrysler ruffled more than a few feathers when it introduced the world to its new compact car, the Dodge Dart. Despite three different engine options, a true dual exhaust, and some serious high-tech gadgetry, purists hate the fact that Dodge used a muscle car name on an economy car.
But it is what it is, right? And for what it is worth, the original Dodge Dart was also a compact economy car…it just happened to have a V8 GT option. While the new Dart will never get a V8 (or rear-wheel drive), it will get a GT version that includes plenty of goodies and a killer price.
The new Dodge Dart will get the top-of-the-line 2.4 liter Tigershark engine with 184 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque, making it one of the most powerful non-turbo compacts on the market. A six-speed manual is standard, though a six-speed auto will also be available. The Dodge Dart will come with a dual exhaust standard, a sportier suspension, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside though Dodge really went crazy with the technology. With an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen control center and 7-inch TFT gauge cluster, you’ll finally feel like you’re driving a 21st century car. Throw in heated Napa leather seats, remote start, and a $20,995 MSRP, and you’ve got looks, value, and performance wrapped up in one awesome little car.
Sure, it isn’t the Dodge Dart GT of old, but this Dart ain’t no dud either.
