If you’re reading these words, it’s almost a certainty that you’ve seen someone doing donuts with their vehicle, or that you’ve done it yourself. Admit it, it’s fun and it’s kind of cool to make all that noise, create all that smoke, and to show off a little.
There are even professional drivers that do donuts, and if people didn’t enjoy a smokey donut after a NASCAR race, it would be boring. How did we live before them? Everyone loves it, and the winning driver has no problem lighting up the tires, creating the smoke and hearing the fans go wild about it. We bet those NASCAR veterans that retired years ago wish they had thought of doing a victory burnout.
Unfortunately, some people partake in a frosty mug of liquid encouragement before attempting to do a donut, and the result is less than impressive. They’re lucky if they only damage their vehicle, but sometimes the “nut behind the wheel” just doesn’t have enough blood in his alcohol system and leaves his mark.
One example is the story of a 24 year old man who was apparently trying to show off to his girlfriend – who was his passenger - by doing donuts in a parking lot at the Blue Lagoon Marina in Harrison Township, MI. Unfortunately, this overgrown teenager was mixing alcohol with his donuts and ended up losing control of his Dodge Ram and landed on a couple of boats docked at the Marina.
One man who witnessed the destruction said he was nearly hit, but then watched as his boat was destroyed by the 24-year-old driver. He estimates the damage to his boat alone to be over $10,000. The driver and his co-pilot were uninjured, save for his ego after this bonehead act.
Authorities called on a crane operator to remove the truck from atop of the two boats that kept it from going into the water. He posted his $100 bond on Sunday, but if you ask us we think that bond should have had at the very least one more zero after it. This just goes to show you, once again, that alcohol and driving – or doing donuts – doesn’t mix.
