Another day, another classic rotting away. These stories are more common than ever. As years pass, once-treasured muscle cars are left to weather the seasons. It usually goes along the lines of some owner trying to hold onto the sentimental value that it brings, thinking that one day they’ll be able to restore it back to life, but yet it sits. Months turn to years and then years turn to decades, and if not caught in time, the cancer of rust may be too great to consider it salvageable.
This 1974 Trans Am SD-455 found on CarsinBarns may face that fate. According to the site, the owner of the post wrote this: “This car has been sitting in eastern Mass since the early 1980’s. I’ve tried to talk to the owner, but he never responds. Of course it’s not for sale!“
The Trans Am SD-455, standing for “Super Duty” and 455-cubic-inches of course, was introduced in ’73 and was a move by Pontiac to bring muscle back from the downer of emissions regulations. It had low compression ratios and ran on regular unleaded pump gas, and with a 400 4-barrel, the car generated about 225 horses.
Unfortunately, the car has been sitting since the ’80s and is still not for sale, this car has a slim chance of becoming something other than a heaping pile of rust. Somebody could return that car to former glory with a little elbow grease, time, and money if the owner could just let it go.
We get it, sentimental value doesn’t have a price, but watching it rot away isn’t exactly a happy ending either. At least cover it up, or give the car its own cocoon to protect it, right?
