Today’s music videos are full of flashy cars, but how many of those music video cars can you name that didn’t need all those crazy paint jobs and huge rims to catch your eye? Inspired by a recent visit to a ZZ Top concert, our friends at E3 Spark Plugs set out to track down the greatest music video cars of all time, ones that didn’t need tons of chrome and hydraulic suspensions to make the viewer notice them.

As the inspiration to their music video blog post, the ‘33 Ford tops E3’s list of greatest music video cars. Complete with custom paint job, an open road ahead of it and seats full of scantily-clad women, the hot rod helps a young service station attendant live out his dream in the video for ZZ Top’s hit song, “Gimme All Your Lovin’.” As a part of many young men’s fantasy, we can see why the hot rod reined in at number one.

Next on the list is the ‘59 Cadillac from The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” music video. Although 1982 wasn’t the greatest year for music, the song became a fan favorite in both the United States and Europe.

Although it didn’t get played very often in the United States, Robbie Williams’ music video for “Millennium” brought E3 in contact with another of their greatest music video car picks – an impressive Aston Martin DB5. Complete with beautiful women, a James Bond wanna-be, and plenty of sparkly gold curtains, the video doesn’t feature the Aston Martin for very long, but it’s enough to make us fans.

If the name K.I.T.T sounds familiar, congratulations, you are a gear-head. But the ‘83 Trans Am didn’t only show up in the original Knight Rider, it also showed up in the music video for “Jump in My Car,” an extremely cheesy rendition song by none other than David Hasslehoff. While the video is enough to make us cringe, the featured Trans Am is well worth enduring the ear pain, making the car worthy of its position on E3’s greatest music video cars list.

With its drop top, red paint job and black racing stripes, the ‘68 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 from Chicago’s “Stay the Night” music video also made the list. Not only is the car pristine and seen throughout the entire video, it is also driven by an alluring young lady that jumps it through a billboard and does donuts in it. What more could we ask for?

With one more spot on the list, E3 turned to the video for Sammy Hagar’s “I Can’t Drive 55.” Supposedly inspired by a traffic stop in which Hagar told the cop he couldn’t drive 55 after being stopped for going 62 in a 55mph-zone, the music video features a neat Ferrari 512 BBi. Although it’s not a classic or a muscle car, we think the Ferrari is rather fitting. I mean, wouldn’t you enjoy going over the speed limit in that car, even if you did get pulled over?

E3 Spark Plugs also mentioned the Corvette that inspired Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” song for their list. Unfortunately, although the song is dedicated to the iconic car, the music video for the song doesn’t feature such a car.
