The market for collector cars has both cooled and exploded in the past few years. What we mean to say is that while prices for regular, not-so-special cars have come down to Earth in the past few years, the high-end of the market is spending record-breaking money on rare collectibles. But some cars are harder to place than others.
Take for example this one-owner 1967 Mustang fastback, ebay auction number 161097353972. Having spent almost 40 years in a garage, and with just 24,000-ish miles on the odometer, this Mustang is an almost-perfect time capsule, right down to the paint. It doesn’t come much more original than this.
This Mustang was clearly a secondary automobile from the get-go, having racked up 3,500 or so miles per year while it was on the road, from ‘67 to 1974. It was then garaged, and the seller promises that this Mustang is 100% rust-free. From the pictures, it certainly looks like that is the case, and the body is surprisingly straight, with just a few small dings here and there.
The paint is also 100% original, never resprayed, though it is quite faded. That just enhances the collector value of this Mustang, though the engine bay is a different story. While this is the original, numbers-matching 289 V8 and automatic transmission, the motor has never been rebuilt and hasn’t been run since the car was parked. In other words, this is a 3,000 pound museum piece as it sits.
For the right collector, it’s the perfect car.
