One of the main lies car people tell themselves as they throw parts at a project is that the money spent is being invested, rather than just disappearing forever. Sure, other guys lose their shirts when they go to sell a racecar, but clearly THIS one is being built right, with only the most desirable components and careful craftsmanship, and it will most certainly hold its value if I ever decide to part with it…

Of course the truth is that the internet is flooded with modified vehicles that will never, ever trade hands for anything close to what it cost to build them. But then again, we sometimes come across head-scratchers like the 1998 Camaro we’ve been watching on eBay. No less than three times that we’re aware of, it has been posted for auction, and no less than three times, it has failed to meet the seller’s very reasonable asking price, currently just $12k.

We know that if you wanted to build a bracket or grudge night race car this nice, you’d be hard-pressed to do it for that price. Parting it out would probably earn significantly more, but that takes time and energy many sellers just can’t muster when it comes time to part ways with a car. In this case, the seller claims to be selling it on behalf of the family of the owner who recently passed away, so there’s that baggage associated with it as well.
