Some movies cast big glitzy actors or actresses with name recognition with the sole intention to get people into the theater. We imagine Burt Reynolds starring role as “Bandit” in the famous Smokey and the Bandit movies is what got people into the theaters. But after the showing, all people were talking about was Bandit’s badass Trans Am.
Often called the “Bandit Edition”, the Trans Am driven by Bandit was actually known as the Black Edition. Apparently Burt Reynolds himself was a big fan of the car, and he went and bought a fully-equipped model to have for himself. Burt’s personal Trans Am has popped up for sale on eBay, and while the auction is over, you may yet get a chance to buy this car someday soon.
The eBay seller is a bit all over the place, and readily admits to being flaky about selling it. No wonder the car didn’t hit its reserve, despite bidding reaching $35,000. Don’t get us wrong, owning Burt Reynolds’ personal Trans Am would be pretty awesome, but the car itself is in less-than-perfect shape. It would need quite a going-through to be show quality.
Still, Burt’s star power certainly adds a certain amount of value to this Trans Am, and there are plenty of people with fond memories of these cars. Following the release of the movie, Trans Am sales took off compared to the year prior, selling close to 30,000 units through the 1980 model year. Burt didn’t skimp on the options, including the 6.6 liter.
Burt Reynolds’ personal Trans Am ranks up there with Steve McQueen’s Bullit Mustang or the Duke Brothers’ General Lee in terms of all time greatest movie or television cars. What would you pay to put Burt’s T/A in your garage?
