It seems like lately there are a number of flawless collector cars coming up for sale, and this particular 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T HEMI Convertible has been restored to perfection by North Carolina’s RKM Performance Center. As such, it’s received a 1.1 rating from Galen Govier, who is widely recognized as the expert on all things Mopar. Although the odometer has 51,145 miles recorded upon its face, this Coronet rumbles and reflects like the day it rolled into the showroom. The Coronet is actually one of the more exclusive collector cars from that era, as it was the brother machine to the Chargers and Daytonas but without the same types of production numbers.
This ultra-rare droptop two-door Coronet R/T was one of eight built in this configuration in 1968 with the fire-breathing 426 HEMI engine and a TF727 automatic three-speed transmission, but only three of these machines are known to remain in existence today – making it one of the rarest real musclecars you can own. As you can see from the photographs, it appears that the team at RKM Performance Center spared no details when it came to restoring the incredible machine. Every effort was made to keep the car as close to 100% Chrysler Corporation parts as possible, and every factory chalk mark and detail is correct.
There is a great breakdown of the car’s VIN and fender tag from Govier as well, detailing every option installed on the assembly line at the St. Louis manufacturing plant, along with detailed build information that any self-respecting Mopar nut will enjoy reading. Just a quick glance through the detailed photo gallery was enough to make me wish I had been alive and of car-buying age when this bad boy hit the streets, because I certainly don’t have the $399,900.00 Buy It Now price. No Mopar currently being built even comes close to matching the awesomeness of this beast. Check out the eBay link if you’ve got deep pockets and pile of cash you want to set on fire.
