The 1968 model year Mustang is arguably the last year of the “little” ‘Stangs, as for 1969 the Mustang (and its cousin the Mercury Cougar) grew noticeably. That’s why the value of these later first-gen Mustangs seems to drop off beyond the ‘69 model year (an exception being the valuable Boss models). You won’t find any 1969 Shelby GT500s selling for almost $150,000, that’s for sure.
eBay item number 321377693036 is, according to the seller, the “real deal” when it comes to Shelby Mustangs. This 1967 GT500 fastback is one of the most desirable and recognizable cars on the planet, and for the low, low price of $148,500, it can be yours.
Is there any better time to buy an authentic Shelby GT500? Only if you have a time machine friends, as these cars could once be had for about a third of the price of a new Ford Focus. Now though, with the 50th anniversary of the Mustang and the recent death of Carroll Shelby, the price of becoming a member of the Shelby Mustang club has never been higher.
This particular example is as original as you can get, with numbers matching engine, transmission, ignition system, sheet metal…it’s all there. It’s as if you actually had a time machine, as you’re able to experience this car exactly as it left Shelby’s factory almost five decades ago. With just two prior owners on the title, that high price starts to make more sense, as you’re paying entry for an experience most people will just never know.
This is as close to a time machine as we’re ever going to get.
