There was a time when vans and trucks like this wicked mid-engine ’66 Ford Econoline were all the rage. Originally created with maximum weight distribution in mind, these machines became awesome crowd pleasing exhibition vehicles as they habitually launched up on their hindquarters and dragged tail all the way down the quarter mind.
This trick eBay find has all the right touches to blur the popular lines. Bare bones and stripped down like a rat rod with old school racing technology and vintage drag racing gear like a throw-back gasser and all the good stuff to make us want to have it.
Topped with an four-barrel carburetor, this Ford is powered by a trusty 5.0-liter backed by a Ford automatic with an overdrive out back. But unlike many of these exhibition-type which used V-drives (that’s right, out of boats) to spin the back wheels, this goofy machine is hooked to a chain drive to churn the rear axle.
