If you’re into full-sized muscle, we’ve found your Valhalla. Behold possibly the most desirable drop-top Impala ever built. Spotted over on everybody’s online auction house, eBay Motors, this ’69 Impala Super Sport (VIN 164679T115230) was another product of General Motors’ Central Office of Production Orders (COPO) and was a specially-ordered machine that could cruise like a Cadillac yet contend with its Camaro and Chevelle brethren.
Ordered in Hugger Orange, this convertible Impala came with the rarely-optioned Hide-A-Way headlights, vinyl bucket seats, tilt steering and center console trim package along with air conditioning outfitting the wood grain-accented black interior.
In fact, this Super Sport comes with all sorts of creature comforts, including power steering, power brakes, power windows and power door locks…oh yeah, and Chevrolet’s “Speed Minder” speedometer, an optional speedometer that would buzz annoyingly when speeds surpassed a preselected speed.
But that’s not what really makes us drool over this land yacht. It’s the fact that this monster came equipped with a L36-code 427 big block cranking out 390 horsepower. With only 82,452 miles on the original engine, the complete car passed through a comprehensive frame-off restoration.
Backing the 427 is the original LC-code Turbo-Hydromatic 400 automatic. Before going to auction the Impala completed a thorough TLD inspection. There’s a ton more pictures for the would-be bidder to salivate over, so make sure to check out the link!
