When it first debuted over a decade ago, The Fast & The Furious brought the lost art of hideous car customization to the import-driving masses. The fact of the matter though is that questionable tastes in automotive modifications dates back almost to the first cars. Not even the famous American muscle cars were immune from the awful additions like huge spoilers and objectionable body kits.
Need further proof? Scoop this hideous AMC Javelin found by Ridelust on eBay. It comes complete with its own ugly Blaster body kit and a custom paint job that burns the eyes.
Far be it from us to tell people how to modify their cars. Whether you want to modify it to run on vegetable oil on cram a V8 into a Honda, do what you want to do. Just be prepared for what the rest of the world has to say. This AMC Javelin was once a wicked sports car, packing a 304 V8 engine and an automatic transmission. The interior looks to be mostly intact, but the body has seen better days.
The “flaming” paint job doesn’t do this classic car justice, and the huge spoiler catches the eye for all the wrong reason. There’s still a solid looking car underneath the excess baggage, but the two-barrel carburetor and the rest of the engine could probably use a refreshing (though the transmission was recently rebuilt). But it just goes to show that bad taste can transcend generations and vehicular genres.
