For as long as we can remember, people have been marketing knockoff consumer products for the public; be it fake Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton bags, or Nike t-shirts. Cars are no exception either. People even go out of their way to have cars duplicated to look like a higher caliber version of the same model, such as 307 Malibu’s being transformed into Chevelle SS’s, and 6-cylinder Camaros turned into Z/28’s.
While your author wasn’t ever crazy about this idea, especially when that person tries to insist that these cars are the real thing when it comes time to sell, there are actual companies that produce entire kit cars from the ground up duplicating the legends of a bygone era.
One of those companies is Factory Five Racing, and their efforts include making copies of the ’32 Ford coupe, AC/Shelby Cobra, and in this instance, the ’65 Shelby Cobra Coupe.
We found this example on eBay painted in the traditional blue/white color scheme, and although it’s 100% complete with a nice little Ford small block, the seller is auctioning the car off minus the motor with a Buy It Now of $32k. We think that’s kind of steep for a fake car with no motor, but considering what the real ones go for; it does appear to be a bit of a bargain.
Everything else that you would expect from a car is still included, such as the interior, the Ford 8.8” rear end, Tremec 5-speed, wheels/tires, brakes, and even the entire fuel system. We just wish for the price, the seller would leave the potent engine nestled between the fenders.
