Hugh Hefner, once described his family as being “conservative, Midwest, Methodist.” Somewhere along the line, that didn’t totally translate into his own lifestyle and, doubtless, there are millions of red-blooded American men who are thankful for that.
The publishing magnate certainly developed a flare for things, from his fabled mansion to the clubs he built worldwide (and recently revived). In 1969, Ford released an update to the pony car that included new styling, optional radial tires for the first time, a wide range of engines and an average price tag of about $3000.
In the business since 1953, Hefner was a smart and savvy publisher. He got together with Ford and collaborated on a special edition Mustang for the Playmates. A special pink color was chosen and just ten cars each year were built using it. Currently on eBay is a 1969 Mustang GT Convertible, so decked out.
Apparently, the Playmate could choose her preferred Mustang style – coupe, convertible, sport roof – any of which would make a dream assignment for the photographer involved. The pink Mustang program ran for six years and so, there are a very limited number of these cars available. The car selling in eBay is waiting for a first bidder at the moment, who will plunk down at least $39K for the car.
In spite of the eye-searing color, this Mustang hides a 351-cid engine under the hood as well as a shopping list of recently replaced components for maintenance. The well maintained pony car is claimed to be original to its 1969 delivery condition. The Playboy program carried on for six years, so the total number of cars in this hue is very limited.
If either the pedigree or color of this Mustang strikes your fancy, head on over to eBay and check it out. Hostess not included.
