There are rare cars and then there are cars that have been a vital part of automotive history.
Recently, a private seller listed a ’63 ½ Ford Galaxie 500 fast back on eBay. This is an original “Q code” NASCAR version car, having been raced in the 1960s by Leon Wright.
The “A Stock” competition car is mostly original with only 3,200 miles on the odometer. Although the eBay listing has ended, you still have a chance to own this historical car.
The Galaxie was used as part of Ford’s Total Performance campaign. It was during this campaign that Ford strived for perfection on the drag strip, making the ‘63 ½ Galaxie one of the finest ever produced.
The NASCAR version offered a four-speed manual transmission and a 427cui V8. This engine produces 425bhp and 400 pound-feet of torque.
This particular Galaxie was raced by Leon Wright with the sponsorship of Downey Ford and Auto Dynamics.
The car has the original chrome and paint. The interior is in excellent condition, reflecting the low mileage of the car. Because the car was raced by its first and second owner, the rear end has been replaced nine times.
While the original 4:11 ring and pinion comes with it, the car is currently equipped with 31-spline axels and a 3:89 rear end. The original transmission was rebuilt in 2003 and the custom paint letters were repainted in the early ‘90s.
Most of the original parts that are not currently on the car come with it when purchased. It also comes with the original fire suit that was used when racing the vehicle.
The Galaxie was offered on eBay as a consignment car. This means that there was no bidding done on the item. Instead, the seller wanted to be contacted by anyone interested in buying the car.
While the listing has ended, you can still contact the seller if you are interested in buying the car. If purchased, the Galaxie must be picked up in person.
