As people still maintain their uncertainty about the economy, it seems that more and more rare classic cars are being put up for bid in eBay lots. Recently, a rare ‘72 Plymouth GTX Road Runner went up for auction. This specific car is not only a beauty but a star as well, appearing on the front page of Pure Muscle Magazine in 1995.
This Road Runner was one of only 219 built with its configurations. It has a 440 V8 with a four-speed manual transmission and 3.54:1 rear end gears. It has 79,023 original miles on it. The car is painted in the correct Basin Street Blue color with white stripes. The Road Runner even comes with two build sheets.
The only problem with the car, noted in the auction’s information, is that the master cylinder leaks and needs to be replaced. It is leaking due to its elongated period of just sitting in the current owner’s garage. Why someone would not enjoy taking this beautiful car out for some exercise is beyond me.
The auction for the Road Runner ended on May 18th. While there wasn’t a listed “Buy it now” price, the 22 bids failed to meet the reserve with the last bid only reaching $14,602.02. While it’s not surprising that the low bids didn’t meet the reserve on this rarity, it is a shame that this car will continue to sit in a garage rather than being driven. We really hope that this car goes up for bid once again, giving someone the chance to grab this car up for summer.
