Another rarity popped up for bid on eBay again last week. This time, it came in the form of a ‘73 Mercury Cougar convertible. This museum quality car is only one of 1,284 Cougar convertibles made in 1973- the last year that the Cougars were made with convertible tops. Unlike many of the other rare classics that have popped up in the last few weeks, this one closed with a winning bid being made.
The Cougar has its original 351 Cleveland V8 engine and FMX automatic transmission. Offered with the original 75,821 miles, the car was bought from a museum and maintained in its current state by a previous owner. The car has the correct CW interior, original radio and power windows, as well as what the seller says is the original power top. Finished in original 2B Bright Red Metallic, the body of the Cougar is straight with not even a scratch or dent on it.
The ‘73 Cougar was being offered with the original owner’s manual and owner warranty identification card. A total of 25 bids were made. The winning bid was a mere $14,600. We’re guessing there was either no reserve on the Cougar or the seller was so motivated that the reserve was set rather low. Either way, the winner of this auction truly got a gem of a car- one that is sure to appreciate in value and draw attention wherever it is taken. Our congratulations goes out to the winner of this rare Cougar- they surely got a bargain of a deal on it.
