eBay Find Of The Day: Two ’73 Hurst/Olds Cutlasses

It’s not often when you stumble upon a ’73 Hurst/Olds Cutlass on eBay. In a matter of speaking, the older versions (’68,’69, and ’72) were always considered far more desirable than the latter models that would be produced throughout the remainder of the ‘70s. Throw in the fact that they’re pretty rare to begin with (only 1,097 produced) and you could imagine our surprise when we not only found one, but two from the same seller, with both cars painted in the two available colors for ’73 (black and white) no less.

However there’s a catch; neither are exactly in mint condition, and although the black one looks to be in much better condition than the white one, which is mainly what the auction is centered around.

The seller remains to be optimistic that the white car just needs a repaint and some upholstery work. We think it could benefit from a frame-up restoration and a new set of rolling stock. If you’re more interested in the black copy, then you need to contact the seller directly.

Pop open the hood on the white car, and you’ll find the rusty remnants of a 250hp (SAE net) 455cui Olds ‘plant. A 270hp version was available but only on 4-speed equipped models, which this one isn’t.

Instead however, you’ll find a Hurst Dual-Gate shifted TH400 transmission, only natural for a car of its size and engine displacement.

The seller claims that all gauges, lights, and turn signal work on the Olds, and that the car is mechanically sound. But if we were to take possession, the currently-installed Cherry Bomb glass packs would be swapped for the supplied “brand new in the box” Flowmaster units. Still for a Buy It Now of $5800 for the white car alone, that’s not a bad deal, considering the rarity of such a car. Plus, the operating 8-Track comes complete with a Led Zeppelin III tape. Score!

You can see the difference from the factory-style graphics on the black car to the white car's not so professional repaint. The two Cobalts are not part of the deal.
