Often times we see cars on eBay that have a famous name attached to them. Usually, that association with a celebrity or race car driver will add value to the vehicle, and the bidding will get pretty intense. But this latest eBay find has us scratching our collective heads.
Up for bid with a couple of days left is a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, and the bidding on this marvel has reached well over $40,000. Why, you ask? Because it belonged to the former First Lady and Secretary of State, and now Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton. The desire to own this car is essentially right up there with our desire to interview the Kardashians: Not gonna happen.
But that hasn’t stopped more than a couple dozen bidders from trying to out bid each other, and who knows where the final hours will take us. While the thought of shelling out more than the cost of a brand new musclecar for this rather mundane relic from the 1980s Clintonville is enough to make you shake your damn head, it seems to have attracted a lot of attention for some unknown reason.
But looking at all of the current bidders, we see that many of them have pulled a Hillary when listing their maximum bid: they lied, because they came back and changed it again, and again. We kind of like the question at the bottom about whether the car has been checked for DNA. We’re sure it’s been scrubbed.
Is the car worthy to sit in your driveway – is it something you want to brag about to your friends? Or would you rather see it raise money for a Veteran’s charity, and charge people five bucks a pop to take a whack at it with a sledgehammer? It’s your call, but the opening bid of 99 cents was already out of our budget.
If it appeals to you, you get all sorts of mementos along with it: a pair of discarded sunglasses, the original title signed by Hillary, the owners manual, and a trunk full of discarded emails. Or not.
