Ed Pink Opens Specialty Garage For Street Rods, Musclecars

Legendary Hall of Fame engine builder Ed Pink has teamed with longtime friend and former Top Fuel crew chief Bob Brandt to open Ed Pink’s Garage in Newbury Park, California.

“I want to make it clear that we’re not going into the racing engine business,” explains Pink. “I sold Ed Pink Racing Engines (EPRE) to Tom Malloy over five years ago, and it continues to stand on its own.”

Pink’s new venture will focus on special projects that range from building and installing unique engines in street rods and muscle cars to performing R&D work.

“I will count on EPRE to be a valuable resource for precision machine work and testing on all applicable projects we have at Ed Pink’s Garage,” adds Pink.

Brandt is known for his 17-year tenure as crew chief for Don “The Snake” Prudhomme when he won numerous NHRA championships and was recognized as Car Craft magazine’s All-Star crew chief seven straight years. He also played a key role in the racing operations of Gary Ormsby, Bruce Sarver, Larry Minor, Joe Gibbs and Don Schumacher.

“We’ve got a nice shop that’s nestled in an industrial complex and surrounded by a number of car collectors,” says Pink. “Some of the first projects we have going include recreating the flathead engine that was in the ’36 Ford I used to race at the dry lakes, build a 427 SOHC ‘cammer’ with some unique twists and restore an Indian motorcycle.”

Pink’s engine credentials are well known throughout the racing industry. His engines have won races and titles in drag racing, off-road, IndyCar, USAC midgets and Silver Crown, endurance sports car and more. At a recent open house, many racing and historic engines were on display, and EngineLabs has showcased Pink’s work with SEMA projects as well as his experiences with the SOHC engine.
