The Dukes of Hazzard TV series and subsequent movie have bridged generations. Not only does practically everyone know about the Duke boys and their cousin Daisy, they also know about the bright orange General Lee Charger and the amazing jump it did over a moving train. That’s why it is with heavy hearts that we tell you about the death of one of the most notable performers in the Duke series. As we found out from the DodgeCharger.com Forum, professional stunt double to Bo Duke, Allan Wyatt Jr. died earlier this month.
Wyatt got his start in stunt driving at a young age. At just 7 years old, he watched his father, Allan Wyatt Sr., work as a stunt driver and become the co-founder of the Stuntman’s Association.
Fifteen years later, after playing minor league baseball for the Baltimore Orioles for four years, Wyatt started his own career as a stuntman and an actor double.
Although Wyatt performed in over 500 TV episodes and 30 feature films, he is most famous for his work as a stunt driver and body double for actor John Schneider in the Dukes of Hazzard TV series.
In his seven years of working for the Dukes series, Wyatt spent the most time in the General Lee Charger out anyone else, working in 150 episodes. He was also the driver behind the famous second-season scene where the General Lee takes a flying 230-foot jump over a moving train.
That famous jump received, and still maintains the world record for the longest jump done in an automobile.
On February 3rd, Wyatt died of health-related causes, leaving behind his mother, sister, wife Susan and three stepsons. He was only 59 at the time of his death.
Wyatt will be missed by so many in the automotive community and will forever live on as a Dukes of Hazzard and stunt driving legend. Our thoughts and well wishes are with Wyatt’s friends and family in this difficult time.
