For the past two decades or so, Ford has pretty much dominated the police car market with its aging-yet-venerable Crown Victoria. Yet in the past few years, Dodge has gotten back into police vehicles (after an extended abscense) and many departments have opted for the more modern four-door Charger. As the civilian version of the Charger gets updated, so do updates come for the police Pursuit package.

Dodge has unleashed the first official picture of the 2011 Charger Pursuit, as well as a select few details that should have law enforcement everywhere wringing their hands in anticipation.

The 2011 Charger Pursuit is up against some stiff competition in the form of the 2012 Taurus Interceptor and Chevrolet Caprice PPV. Still, the Charger has remained a favorite with many precincts, and the updates it is getting should continue to make it a popular choice. While the darkness and push bar obscures the details of the new front end, you can see the more angular headlights and new crossbar grill well enough.

Some new features include vented brake rotors behind bigger 18-inch wheels. It is also getting stabilizer bars both front and rear, and a two-mode electronic stability control system will keep the cops on the road. The new Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 engine will be the base powerplant, and should put out between 280 and 300 horsepower while getting better gas mileage than previous mills. Of course, the Hemi engine remains an option too, so don’t think you’ll be outrunning this badboy anytime soon.
