Galpin Auto Sports Unveils GTR1 At Pebble Beach

l (6)A few months ago the gearheads of Galpin Auto Sports teased us with the first images of a new supercar that they were very, very excited about. Now we know why. The Galpin Auto Sports GTR1 is a million-dollar supercar capable of 10-second quarter miles and speeds in excess of 225 mph. The guys at GAS have delivered. The car is supposed to hint at what the Ford GT supercar of nearly 10 years ago could have evolved to had the blue oval been able to continue production.

Built with extensive usage of carbon fiber and aluminum, the Galpin GTR1 will be priced around $1,024,000, and initial production will be limited to just six vehicles, though Galpin could build up to 24. Dimensionally the car is five inches wider than the Ford GT that inspired it, and also features jeweled headlamps and tail lamps with carbon fiber accents for an even more exotic look. With a curb weight of around just 3,000 pounds and a mid-mounted twin-turbo 5.4 liter V8 making 1,024 hp and 739 ft-lbs of torque on pump gas, the GTR1’s performance numbers are insane. On 100 octane, the GTR1 makes even more power; 1,197 hp and 889 ft-lbs of torque. Yowzah.

0 to 60 mph is a mind-boggling 3.1 seconds, and you’ll hit 100 mph in less than 7 seconds. The quarter-mile will pass you by in just 10.6 seconds at more than 150 mph, and you’ll reach 200 mph in 18.9 ticks of the clock. The GTR1 has a 51/49 weight distribution, and each horsepower has to pull just three pounds. Six piston brakes, at all four corners should get things stopped quickly should owners ever truly test the performance of the car, and 20-inch “knock-off” wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero rubber will do their best to claw for traction against those 1,200 angry horses under the boot.

It’s every bit the Bugatti competitor we hoped for, though the jury is still out on the actual top speed, which right now is listed only as “225+ mph”, a very non-committal number. Will it be able to take on the likes of the Veyron or the Hennessey Venom GT? Production doesn’t begin until January of 2014, so we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?
