Gary Bowers’ ’65 Mustang Wins Goodguys Street Machine Of The Year

The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association holds 20 car events every year at various locations around the country, and one event that attracts the most people is the Goodguys PPG Nationals held in Columbus, Ohio. It is at this show that the coveted Street Machine and Street Rod of the Year gets crowned, this year the honors for the Optima Batteries Street Machine of the Year go to this incredible 1965 Mustang owned by Gary Bowers.

“Producer” was built by none other than Ringbrothers, who are very well known for their meticulous and one-of-a-kind builds. Their builds have been at all the major automotive events around the country, and the cars that roll out of their shop never fail to amaze the crowd and have grown men doing the “I want one” plea to their significant other.

The Ring Brothers once again broke the mold by widening the body two inches on each side, extending the rockers and creating a Mustang like you’ve never seen before. There’s a full belly-pan under the car and the hood and roof are their customary carbon-fiber touch.

With 740 horsepower being delivered via a Keith Craft built 427 stroker, this Mustang is all show and all go. Topped with an Edelbrock Super Victor manifold and a Holley 750HP carburetor, the Crane Cams camshaft and roller rockers keep plenty of power on tap, and the engine compartment is dressed up with Hose Candy.

Changing the gears is done with a T56 six-speed, and rolling stock consists of some massive 345/30R19 meats on equally massive wheels, the 18 x 11 wheels in front are a bit smaller than the 19 x 13.5 wheels in the rear.

The custom interior doesn’t disappoint, it’s every bit deserving of the rest of the car, with color-matched gauges set into the one-off dash. The satin black finish and bright orange BASF paint are a perfect complement to each other, as this car takes home the much deserved win.
