If you have been watching the news anywhere you know it was filled with reports of multiple GM car recalls during the last year. Unfortunately for Dodge, GM isn’t the only one being mauled by one or more of its hottest cars suffering recalls.
Although there have been a couple of them reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall website for alternator and transmission troubles on the Charger and Challenger, Dodge has taken it upon itself to recall 2,211 supercharged-Hemi-equipped Hellcats in order to replace fuel hose seals that may leak. The tip-off to this problem came from a dealer that found a fuel leak on a car that had not yet been delivered to a customer.
According to Dodge, the hose seals had passed the supplier’s leak testing, but engineers decided that some seals may have been installed incorrectly. No injuries, accidents, or complaints have been reported according to the manufacturer. However, all supercharged 6.2 liter Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger Hellcats have been recalled by Dodge.
Reports such as this don’t seem to have stemmed the incredibly high demand for the Hellcat, as Dodge continues to crank them out as fast as possible, and dealers are getting top dollar for them. The most interesting part of the modern musclecar’s success to us is not that the American car buyer is apparently ravenously hungry for the car, but that some nay-sayers were predicting that the car would not do well at all, considering the $70,000 to $80,000 price tag. I guess those espousing negativity didn’t understand the musclecar fan very well. What about you? Are you still interested in driving a Hellcat?
