Whether you were always a Mustang fan or just a general car enthusiasts, you undoubtedly took notice of the 1967 Mustang GT500 featured in the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds the minute you saw it. After all, Eleanor is certainly a one-of-a-kind car.
Fortunately, for those enthusiasts that just can’t live without an Eleanor of their own, there are companies out there that will supply you with this hot date- the price representing her rarity and appeal of course. But what if you want the real Eleanor- the one who hit the big screen alongside Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie? Well, thanks to Mecum Auctions, you could just get the chance to take home the real movie star after all.
Heading to the December Austin, Texas, Mecum auction is, in fact, the Eleanor hero car from the 2000 Gone in 60 Seconds movie, or rather, one of the three hero cars that actually starred alongside the movie’s famed actors in the Hollywood remake of the original 1974 film. In total, 11 “Eleanor versions” were created; this car being number seven of the eleven.
Originally put to paper by famous hot rod designer Steve Stanford and built by Cinema Vehicle Services (CVS) of North Hollywood, California, this specific Eleanor Mustang features all the trimmings you’d expect on a cop-alluding, performance-handling, Hollywood hero car.
Under the hood, the Mustang features a Ford Racing 351ci crate engine fitted with a Holley 700cfm 4-barrel carburetor, Fluidyne Racing Products aluminum radiator and a high-volume fuel pump. Backing this power plant is a 4-speed manual transmission attached to a Posi-traction rearend, which push the car’s glorious power to 17-inch Schmidt wheels. Braking power is provided by 4-wheel disc brakes.
Of course, the Mustang wouldn’t be a true Eleanor without its now famous custom design, including the modified front grille, additional driving lights, healthy hood scoop, side scoops, integrated rear spoiler, quick-fill fuel tank, bodacious fender flares and Thunderbird-esque taillights. Completing the look is the famed Silver paint scheme with Charcoal Grey racing stripes, “Go Baby Go” button and side-exit exhaust added to the car by CVS after the movie was filmed.
Adding to the car’s value is a letter of authenticity from CVS’s very own Ray Claridge.
Hitting the auction block on Saturday, December 13th at the Austin Convention Center, Eleanor is sure to be a crowd favorite, amping up the bidding to levels fit for a movie star.
If you’re interested in bidding on the Mustang, be sure to get your bidder registration in soon, or catch the auction on the NBC Sports Network to see Eleanor cross the stage in all her famous glory!
