Here’s an update for Hellcat fans. The big daddy Charger (and Challenger) entered production first part of January and the month’s allotment quickly sold out. Marc Rozman over at Allpar spoke to an FCA source and brings us the update.
Dodge isn’t imposing any limits on production of the cars, but the brawny 707 HP 6.2 liter monster motor does have limited availability with build numbers dependent on third party suppliers to meet demand. The cars are so cool and have gotten so much buzz, maybe the Mopar guys underestimated demand here. They could have a worse problem.
This poses questions regarding implementing the 6.2 liter Hellcat motor in other FCA cars. The Grand Cherokee would be a natural, not to mention the Durango. A Hellcat RAM Truck would trounce the puny new Raptor as well. Hell, why not the Viper? It only makes 640 HP, and we can’t have the pony out run the horse. So the Mopar guys might need to adjust production mix soon if they plan to spread Hellcat goodness across the board.
In the meantime, Kenne Bell, Magnacharger, Whipple or Procharger would love to sell you a bolt on blower that looks darn near stock from the factory and can give you a quick 100-150 HP bump. For folks on a budget, a Challenger or Charger optioned with the Super Track Pak is a great starting off point with one of the aforementioned supercharger kits. Drive it for awhile and upgrade when budget permits? Or, get your Hellcat order in and get in line.
