For many people who have spent hours in their RV or Camper, Hellwig Products is a name they can associate with and recognize. Hellwig is a family business that has been providing products for over 65 years, including load control and helper springs for RVs and campers.
However, Hellwig Products has sway bars for more than just RVs and campers. They also have sway bars for classic and muscle cars like full size Chevrolets, including: Bel Air, Nomad, Impala, Caprice and various wagons, as well as A and F bodies. Ford owner can find sway bars for Mustang, Falcon, Torino, Cougar, Fairlane and Comet, to name a few. And Mopar coverage includes early A, B and E body as well as many late model Mopars. If you have a lowered truck and want to install thicker sway bars, they have some coverage there, too.
Hellwig products are 100% American made in Visalia, Ca., started by Rudy Hellwig, who used to make sway bars back in the late 60’s and 70’s. Rudy got his patent for overload springs in 1941, and by 1946 he started Hellwig Products, pounding our sway bars by hand.
Via their web site, Don Hellwig says, “In the beginning, we would go out on weekends and we would go out and find somebody with a Ford with the transverse leaf springs, washing their car in the driveway and Dad would make an offer to put them on for $7 installed.”
The Hellwig family thrives on quality and dedication, and it’s a tradition that has been passed down through the generations. Hellwig Products is no stranger to the aftermarket industry trade shows, either. We visited their booth at both PRI and at SEMA last year, where they showed off their GM A body sway bars. They were even there at the very first SEMA Show in 1967. So take a look at their site and see if they can get you handled properly.
