It is not uncommon to see all generations of Firebirds taking to the drag strip for some good ‘ole racing fun. What you don’t see at the track very often is a Yenko Nova dragging it up. While rare and quite pricy, Yenko Novas are hardly ever seen on the road, let alone taking a lashing at the track. But that didn’t stop one proud owner from taking his Nova out and boy are we glad he did. Thanks to Autoholics, we have the pleasure of being able to share with you a video of the Yenko Nova’s impressive race against a second-generation Firebird at this year‘s Euronats at Saint Pod.
Just like every drag race, there is pre-staging, staging and when the light turns green, it is every man for himself. The Yenko has no problem standing its ground and screams past the modified Firebird with seemingly little effort. While we don’t know what the Firebird has under the hood, it was no match for the Yenko, losing by over a full second. It didn’t hurt that whoever was driving the Yenko knew what they were doing- pulling a 0.004 reaction time against the Firebird’s 0.298.
Packing a punch in all of its glory, the Yenko crosses the speed traps at the end of the track going 133.65mph for a quarter mile time of just 9.976 seconds. The Firebird follows with an 11.10 quarter time at 115.03mph.
While a classic muscle car connoisseur may cringe at the site, or even the mere thought of a Yenko Nova being pushed to its peak performance at the drag strip, we’re happy to see that not every Yenko is cooped up in a climate controlled building. We look forward to seeing more footage by V8TV of rare cars being raced- and making a name for themselves all over again at that.
