The HEMI motor is world renowned for its racing prowess and incredible performance potential on the track, though after the mid-70’s it had completely disappeared from Chrysler’s lineup. The HEMI was originally only a car engine, but in the last decade Chrysler (and their German overlords Daimler) resurrected the HEMI to use as a truck engine as well. From there the revival of the HEMI moved it into the Pentastar cars we know and love including the Charger, Challenger, and 300C. Yet the truck that restarted the HEMI craze has gone largely unloved in recent years as companies focus on fuel efficiency over performance.
That’s where Hurst steps in. Motor Trend reports that the famous shifter company is working on just such a hot rod pickup, which could be called the “HEMI Hauler.”
Now we all known that if you’ve got a serious race car, chances are it is not a street legal vehicle. Even if it is, do you want to drive your race car all the way to the track getting 2-3 MPG? We think not. Of course, you don’t want to show up in just any old pickup truck either. That’s where the HEMI Hauler comes in.
Designed for the serious Mopar racing enthusiast, a limited run of 50 of these supercharged Ram pickups will be built by Hurst. They are going to slap a supercharger on the 5.7 liter HEMI engine, which will boost output of the 390 horsepower/407 ft-lb torque well beyond the 500 mark. Then of course there will be the signature Hurst additions, like a pistol-grip shifter, gold accented 22-inch wheels, and a Hurst-approved paint job. We think the HEMI Hauler will be one hell of a hot rod truck, if you can afford it.
