Hitting the Big Screen in coming months expect to see the long awaited remake of the iconic TV series CHiPS. A legend in the pop culture of the car world, this beloved series was on the airwaves from 1977-1983, staring Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox. A dynamic duo that hit the streets of Southern, California, as cops on motorcycles that patrolled the highways and bi-ways fighting crime.
Action packed, this series not only featured some pretty sick bikes but also featured a lot of now classic American muscle from an era passed. Feeding the addiction of the car enthusiast, like many of the great movies and TV series from this period, this classic show was all about the ride. Many would tune in each week just to check out some of the sickest street cars on the road.
Dax Shepard, who is strongly credited with bringing the film to the big screen, is set to play the role of Jon Baker. Able to get this adaption off the ground after many years of struggle, not only will Shepard star in the movie but he will also serve as the film’s writer and director as well. Taking on the iconic role of Frank “Ponch” Poncherello will be actor Michael Pena.
The story line, taking on a more serious feel, along the lines of “Bad Boys” and “Lethal Weapon”, will also feature Dax Shepard performing his own motorbike stunts. An avid motorcyclist, Shepard also happens to be a pro race car driver as well. With seat time behind the wheel of everything from his first ride a 1984 Mustang GT, a heavy-duty Chevy Silverado diesel, a V10 Powered Lamborghini to the Porsche 911, expect to see the new Jon Baker throwing down his skills on the hot sticky pavement of the Cali highways.
This movie, not only sure to feature some sweet rides, will for the ladies feature a whole lot of scenes with the unforgettable tight khakis and funky black boots. Sure to entice the ladies out for a great date night this could make a great flick for both sides of the spectrum. Expected to be a block buster, what other iconic car shows or movies would you like to see brought back to the silver screen?
