There’s nothing like big horsepower, and there’s definitely nothing like it when it’s being produced by one of the largest rsace engines known to man – an 815-cube Sonny Leonard-built Hemi engine.
This particular piece is for sale on RacingJunk and features a Donovan 5-inch bore space big-block Chevrolet castings that makes a whopping 1,751 horsepower and 1,297 foot-pounds of torque – naturally aspirated!
That’s right, there are no blowers, turbos, or nitrous oxide on top of this mean piece, and it can be yours for the small sum of $45,000 – which is more than enough to put a nice down-payment on your choice of suburban residences near most of America’s big cities.
In addition to the block, the power comes from a Bryant billet crankshaft, BME aluminum connecting rods, CP pistons, and Sonny’s Hemi heads. Assorted running gear includes a 60mm camshaft, Jesel lifters and belt drive and a T&D shaft rocker arm system.
Moroso handles the oiling from pan to dry sump; there’s also a sheetmetal intake manifold on top fed by a set of Accufab billet throttle bodies and Waterman mechanical fuel pump.
Making this kind of power is no easy feat, but the Sonny’s team has to be one of the most well-respected in the country at doing so. A chassis that can handle the power is also a large undertaking, but we suspect that anyone looking at this engine already has a chassis in hand to take advantage of it.
