Production of the Dodge Viper officially ceased several months ago. It was a good run, and since then rumors have displaced reality regarding a next-generation Viper. At a Dodge dealers meeting, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne unveiled an Alfa-in-Viper’s clothing. Now speculation is that the next Viper will be underpinned by Italian architecture…not entirely a bad thing if you’re into big power.
A new car needs a new logo though. So is this picture, snapped by Drag Times at the 11th annual Viper Owner’s Invitational, the new logo?
We have no reason to doubt it is the new logo, as it was unveiled as such and the event expressly prohibited cameras and cell phones (though some were obviously snuck in anyways). It isn’t a drastic change from the original logo, which featured a simple Viper’s head outlined. The original logo’s snake looked very…cool. Almost relaxed, if you will, like he wasn’t concerned about the six-hundred horsepower under the hood.
The new Viper logo is much more aggressive and detailed. The eyes are filled in for one, as is the head, and this snake looks ready to bite. Some interesting details also emerged from this closed-doors meeting. The new Viper has a “more sophisticated” front end, as well as uses LED lights and plenty of brake ducts. It also has a very aggressive hood and hood scoop and a deep cowl not unlike the Corvette’s or Shelby Series 1. Sounds like the next Viper is shaping up to be a real competitor. We can’t wait to see this bad boy, new logo and all.
