One of the hottest cars to hit the scene this year has been the 2015 Mustang, and shops have already started tuning the car to get more ponies and run the quarter-mile quicker than the shop before them. But Ford brought their own entry into the performance world to the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, and while they had some interesting cars, the theme was heavy on the Mustang – particularly the 2015 Shelby GT350.
Sitting up on its platform, the track-ready GT350 hood remained closed the entire time we were there, we asked but it had to stay closed. Why so secretive about the new 5.2 liter Ford powerplant? Perhaps Ford isn’t quite done with it yet, and there are hopes that the power will be increased on production models. Still, the potent pony car engine packs a mean punch at what Ford says is “more than 500 horsepower.”
Recently, we brought you some pictures from the introduction and shared a little insight about the muscular V8 with its 8,200 rpm red line and 400 lb-ft of torque. It seems Ford is playing a similar game that we saw earlier this year by another manufacturer, and letting the public speculate on the Shelby’s true power rating before they unveil it.
We were able to talk a little with a Ford rep at the show who did mention that while the engine itself is off limits for now, the car was designed and prepped for the track, where ultra high power took a back seat to light weight and agility on the road course.
We were also able to snap a few detail photos, including some of the interior, but weren’t allowed to sit in the car – that was also off limits.
The Shelby GT350 is going to be a contender, and with 5.2 liters of Ford power under the hood pushing over 500 horsepower we can’t wait to see some video of this car at tracks like Laguna Seca, or Nürburgring, to see what kind of lap times it can come up with. Stay tuned, we’ll bring you everything we can come up with, and as soon as Ford starts talking, we’ll relay that info to you ASAP!
