While not inherently a “car movie,” the Mad Max trilogy has inspired generations of gearheads to prep their vehicles for the inevitable apocolypse that will surely consume the world. Or, you know, they just really like the movie. In fact, the Mad Max movies have such a following that there is currently a fourth movie (prequel or sequel, nobody is sure) in production. That means plenty of post-apocalyptic vehicles made from salvaged parts will soon grace the silver screen.

Aussie website The Age.au came across these pictures of Mad Max vehicles awaiting transport to the secret filming location somewhere in South Africa. We wonder what is in story for these cobbled-together vehicles.

True to the Mad Max mythology, the first two vehicles look tough enough to survive the Australian Outback, where the first three movies took place. They are obviously based on big trucks, but heavily modified, one with a cow-catcher up front, the other sporting a huge round fuel tank on the back. Reportedly there were also a number of Falcon XA coupes awaiting transport too, suggesting that many of these vehicles may not come back from Africa in one piece.

The name of the new film, Fury Road, gives no hints as to the plot, or where it will pick up in terms of the original trilogy, seeing as how 15 years passed between Mad Max and Beyond the Thunderdome. Considering that Max’s signature Falcon XA coupe is still in one piece though, this movie could be from before the second movie. Whatever the case, we can’t wait to see it, as there promises to be plenty of apocalyptic action, crazy cars, and lots of explosions.
