Question of the day: How do you manage to be coherent enough to break into a Chevrolet dealership, find the keys to a new Indy 500 Pace Car replica Camaro, fire it up, drive it through the plate glass window in front of you and down the steps, and off into the night, yet be loaded enough to think it is a good idea?
Police in Zionsville, Indiana are looking for the person who did just that, described only as a young white male. Per WHTR.com, Zionsville Police Captain Robert Musgrave admits, “We have no clue whether it was a teenager, or whether it was an adult, we don’t know if they were intoxicated, on drugs… we have no clue.”
Dealership owner Bill Estes is taking it in stride, though, as seen in the video above. The Camaro is likely a complete writeoff, with extensive suspension and body damage. Somehow, the thief managed to get a few miles away before abandoning the car at the roadside and knocking on a local resident’s door, asking for help. Instead, the homeowner called 911, but by the time police arrived, the suspect was nowhere to be found.
One interesting thing to note from the photos – the top of the convertible Chevy was apparently down when the thief drove it out of the dealership. That must have been a fun shower of broken glass. We’re sure the guy will turn up sooner or later, and it will be interesting to find out exactly what combination of poor judgement and recreational chemicals propelled this late-night adventure.
