At the Chicago Auto Show Dodge finally threw off the veils of the ’12 Dodge Charger SRT8, one of the last remaining pieces missing from this illustrious performance car family. There were many tantalizing details revealed, including a 465 horsepower 6.4 liter HEMI V8, a new active exhaust valve system that increases gas mileage, and a bold new look for the new decade. As it turns out though, there are other details regarding the ’12 Charger SRT8 that were left out.
Luckily, Allpar has some more details on this refreshed ride, and while there is nothing remarkably groundbreaking here it does shed some light on the car Chrysler hopes the Charger SRT8 will be.
There is a new emphasis on luxury and comfort for the 2012 Charger SRT8, which includes dual climate zones as well as heated front and rear seats, as well as heated/cooled cup holders. LED lights will play a part in improving interior quality, as will a 900 watt 19-speaker (!) sound system Swanky.
Also worthy of note is that the aging 5-speed transmission will receive a sport mode option. We’d still rather have the seven-speed transmission they are working on, but all in good time. There will also be an “Auto” and “Sport” mode for the two-mode active dampening suspension. Forward collision mitigation will also be either a standard or optional feature coupled with the adaptive cruise control. All told the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 is shaping up to be faster, better looking, and more luxurious than ever. But will it sell?
