New Chrysler 300C Caught Without Camo

The Chrysler 300 series is one of the most enduring names in American automotive history. It was one of the first muscle cars, and over the years it has gotten bigger and faster (for the most part). It has a rich history, and we’re anxious to see the next generation. Dodge has already shown us the next Dodge Charger, but has been mum on changes for the Chrysler 300.

Well wonder no longer. Edmunds Inside Line has spy shots of the next 300, completely uncovered, and overall it looks pretty good.

The last generation of the 300 was accused of being a Bentley-clone, and the argument wasn’t without justification. This 300 doesn’t look like any Bentley we’ve ever seen though. The last 300 was all about sharp angles, but this one looks like it has been massaged and relaxed. It is less “gangster” and more “European playboy.”

The front fascia has been smoothed out, and the grille isn’t nearly as prominent. The chin is also a lot sleeker, and there is something peculiar hanging out next to the passenger’s-side fog light. The rear end is also a lot smaller, with everything be trimmed back just a bit, even the tail lights. This car also carries the 300C badge, and we like the re-worked rear valance and exhaust exits. Very classy, and there is a lot of brawn under that body.

We already know Chrysler has a slew of new HEMI engines coming for both the Charger and Challenger, and the 300C won’t be left wanting. The 5.7 liter HEMI engine will make 379 horsepower and 410 ft-lbs of torque. Then there is the big guns, the 6.4 liter/392 cubic inch HEMI. The 392 name harkens back to 1957-58, a time before the Charger or Challenger. This engine could be found in just a few Chryslers, among them the land-speed record-setting C300 and the 300D. Expect Chrysler to do something special for the 300C and 392 engine in this sleek new body.

Does this new 300 live up to expectations, or has it been too “Europeanized?”
